I know you can step on fast food communications. I've read about it all over the place and it's really funny reading. Telling people their car is ugly. Telling them they're already too fat. Then the order-taker breaks in and say's "Who's that? That wasn't me!"
What gear do I need to buy off of ebay to have a few harmless shits and giggles? (Scanners I already have) It's the transmitter I'm not sure about.

The only people that would ever try and track you down and proecute you would be if you were transmitting on Federal or police frequencies. Which can be done fairly easily by buying old police motorolas off of ebay. I read about one guy who did it for a while somewhere from a fixed location. He was tranmitting all sorts of outrageous racist stuff ostensibly coming from the local cops. They triangulated when he was transmitting for too long, found his actual apartment probably with a signal-strength meter, and arrested his ass. I'm sure the FCC and others weren't amused.

Re: Fast food fun
Sat, June 30, 2007 - 3:42 PMI'd love to do the fast food thing. Sounds like fun.
I'd also like to get one of those things that can hear and record peoples conversations from far away. I often wonder what someone would think if they listened in on me or if the table at the restaurant was bugged. lol Me & my friends say some pretty fucked up shit on a regular basis. It's just all in fun but if anyone recorded that stuff. lol Holy shit! Talk about a pariah / social outcast. : )
I have read about fast food chains, car dealerships, department stores, etc........ having not only cameras but also listen to peoples conversations for purposes of obtaining knowledge on what people like or don't like to help them improve their business. Apparently these digital recordings can be used as evidence, for security, as well as abusive eavsdropping and bribery. I wonder how many peoples lives have been ruined this way? I need to make a trip to the spy store. : )

I read about some pranksters who figured-out how to hijack a Fred Meyer's in-store intercom system. They'd call up and ask to be switched to extension such and such or something which was the in-store intercom. I'm not sure exactly how they got onto it really, I could probably google the story, but from what I recall, once they were switched, the call couldn't be terminated, so they were free to read poetry, play bad guitar music, bad-mouth the store, basically anything. Then I guess it couldn't be traced either once they were inside their phone system.
They had these long hillarious blogs somewhere where one would be doing something and the other would walk over to the store and listen and watch all the customers laughing and observe technicians trying to shut them down. I guess they couldn't other than disconnect the system altogether. Aparently even the in-store intercom volume was fixed otherwise they'd have turned it down to zero right off the bat. I guess they've redesigned their phone systems so you can't do that to Fred Meyer anymore but if you can find it, it's really really funny reading.

Re: Fast food fun
Sat, June 30, 2007 - 4:15 PMThat does sound funny. I didnt even know what Fred Meyers was till I first visited Portland. And what's with not being able to pump your own gas there? That's crazy. I guess it would be good for when it's raining.
